Qatar Laser Association

Both the Government of Qatar and Doha Sailing Association - DSA have supported the Laser class Dinghy as an Olympic Class boat. Weekly races and monthly event is being held and organized by DSA for the Laser fleet. Also, Qatar open Laser championship, and National Laser championship are being held annually to keep the Laser high performance dinghy as top sailing priority in Qatar. The DSA Club has more than 60 boats of Lasers'. Some are being used only for formal races and some are being used for practice races , but all are free of charges. Moreover, DSA has full workshop runs by expert skilled personnel to maintain the boats and to keep the Laser fleet smoothly practiced.

The Qatar International Regatta is annualy held as Sail The Gulf and is a grade 2 event for the World Sailing Rankings. The Laser Class are two fleets sailed - The Gold Fleet for 'hot-shots' and Silver Fleet for Club Level sailors. Boats are supplied free of charge by the Doha Sailing Association. Substantial sponsorship is also being arranged to lower the cost of travel and accommodation and a full social programme is being planned for sailors and visitors.

In '98 we were delighted that ISAF President Paul Henderson was able to join us. Sail The Gulf attracts may return visitors - all of whom list as a main reason for returning, the rich combination of competitive sailing and social events, not to mention the pleasant weather and warm seas.

A visit to Doha for Sail the Gulf, presents a unique opportunity for sailors, their families and friends to visit the country, to sail and to enjoy Qatari hospitality .
