From 16-22 December 2010, the 470 Junior World Championships will take place from the Doha Sailing Club in Doha, Qatar and represent the 2010 season-ending finale of the 470 Championship calendar.

The 2010 470 Junior World Championships is an event accessible to all with a pay and play philosophy, a strategically located event venue, equality of competition and reduction of costs through supplied equipment.

Dear all,

I am pleased to announce that the 3 Catamarans Hobbie 16 that the we (Club committee) ordered in March 2010 are at the Club now.

On Thursday 18th a clinic will be organized with a Catamaran specialist that will be able to clarify any questions and give directions on how to use the boats.

The required utilization policy (training checks and usage) will be explain to you the same day and will be published for later references.

Dear Sailors,

This Friday 29 Oct, 2010 there will race for lasers and 470's.

We will do our first down wind cross race. As per the windfinder forecast there will not be much wind, so we can do something different.
Please, before going to the water, there will be a briefing to explain the race format, as the fleets will be divided in two different teams.

Check on the club notice board for race details.
Race starts at 14:00hr (SHARP).

Part of the objective to develop Doha Sailing Club was to encourage eco-friendly sports, and recently the committee members and Federation adopted Land Sailing using one design kart called ' Blo-Kart' as an additional activity to the Club.

5he Gulf Trophy final

5th Gulf Trophy:

DOHA, 23 September 2010- The Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation (QSRF) is organising the fifth edition of Gulf Trophy Cup to kick off on Friday.

The event will witness the participation of 12 countries including; New Zealand, Australia, Britain, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Malaysia, India, Sudan, Iran, Bahrain and Morocco.

The participating teams in the championship have arrived in Doha and began their training sessions at Doha Sailing Club.

On other hand, the Qatari rowing team will participate in the Arab Championship to be held in Tunisia from 30 September to 05 October 2010.

The Qatari squad includes Jassim Bu Rasheed, Mohammad Bu Rasheed, Yousef Al Majed, Ghanim Bu Rasheed.

Dear Sailors,

From tomorrow onwards (17 Sep 2010), on every week end that we are having our training regatta, you must register yourself first.

A Registration Form will be available on the club reception (Richard's desk), fill in your name in which sail boat class you will use.

After the registration, this paper will be handed over to Alex in order to have better control of the information.

This will be our standard procedure and a maximum of 6 (six) short regattas will be performed in a day, according to the people's acceptance and weather condition.

The results will be available on the same day and will be posted on the notice board located at club caffeteria.

Your cooperation in following this new procedure will be highly appreciated.

Dear Sailors,

Our friend Richard Nero volunteered himself to give some instructions regarding sailing rules.
This will happen next Saturday, 11 Sep 2010.

Meeting point is on the club caffeteria at 14:00hr, and the session will start at 14:30hr.
Session will take maximum 30min and after that everybody go to the water for practice.
If you want to join, please show up and clear your doubts.

Thanks to Richard for his kindly offer and hope more people will get interested in runing discussion sessions for our sailing improvement.

Dear DSC Sailors,

Vice Commodore Cup will be started in October after the 5th Gulf Trophy event (23, 24 & 25).
Due to this scorching heat and humidity, our fellow friends that are fasting during the Holy month of Ramadan will not be in the same condition that people that are not fasting.
Once Ramadan finishes many people will fly away and this is a point that we have to consider too.

During the next week ends we will do some race training in preparation for the Gulf Trophy.
The events will be separated by boat class in order to have always big fleet and good competition.

Up to the end of the month a new Vice Commodore Cup race schedule will be send to you.

Meantime, prepare yourself for the incoming events.

We congratulate DSC members on getting land sailing accepted and blokart recognized as a one design class in Doha Sailing Club and approved by Qatar Marine Sailing Federation.

That is great achievement and it will help the growth of our sailing sport immensely!

The blokart is basically a single person kart made from high quality metal components. Weighing in at approximitly 29 kg , it has been designed to break down into a small size and fit in the boot of most cars. Once you have assembled your blokart you have the option of fitting three different sizes of sails.

Blokart sailing is a fun sport that appeals to a wide cross-section of people. Whether you are aged eight or 80, you will enjoy blokart sailing.

Blokarts are great for families because it something to do together.Despite the ability to reach high speeds, safety is a top priority in design and injury is very rare. The blokart is extremely maneuverable and can be used almost anywhere from wide-open beaches and parks to tight parking lots and tennis courts! Guess what, we have a world cup FREE MATCHES shown in 42" TV from now to the end of the competition to watchin the club house (WOW no.1). Club will be open for the schedule as it mentioned below serving our club menu for food and drinks (WOW no.2).

We announce to you to bring yourself, family and friends to share with us the real action with the remaining HOT matches (WOW no.3).

Dear DSC Members,

Next Friday, 18th June, EXACTLY at 14:30hr we will start our Friday regatta series, with 3 starts to be performed.

Race course length will be according to the "wind power". Our race Courses will be Trapezoid.

We will start first the 470's and the laser fleet in the sequence. This is a trial to see the "race addicts" response. There will be an annual racing programm that will be send to all members very soon up dated in DSC site.

We will use the International class rules to ranking the club sailors based on age as follows:

• Category general classification

• Category by age; Ex: Junior, Master (A Masters event may be split into 4 categories: Great Grand Masters (aged 65 and over), Grand Masters (55-64 years), Masters (45-54 years) and Apprentices (35-44 years).

This will allow more people to get prizes and feeling rewarded too.

Show up and have fun on the water.

Sail The Gulf 2011 planned to be held from 15 to 19 February, 2011. T his event organized by Qatar Sailing & Rowing Federation QSRF (http://www.qatarsailing.org ) in cooperation with Doha Sailing Club. Over 30 countries are set to participate. Programs will be starting from 10:00 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. daily but will depend on weather conditions. Open to the public. Free entrance. For more information, visit www.qatarsailing.org
